Abstract | This paper highlights a teacher's perspective when changing her accustomed and traditional way of teaching into a pedagogic approach philosophically inspired by critical mathematics education. The focus here is on the practitioner's identities during the teaching process, in a context of change. The research is socio-culturally grounded and involves a methodologically critical ethnography. The teacher's learning was demonstrated through her voice in the end as sensing freedom in her teaching, reflecting on new possibilities and analysing the responsibilities different actors have in the mathematics classroom. Her experiences indicate that a critically mathematics inspired teaching approach has the potential to support teachers' achievement of agency.
